A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gules (Brick Red) a motor vehicle tire Or, surmounted by a full tracked personnel carrier mounting a .50 caliber machine gun Azure, and charged with a polar star of the second. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed WHENEVER NEEDED in Blue letters.
Brick red and yellow are the colors used for the Transportation Corps. The motor vehicle tire and the personnel carrier allude to the mission of the Battalion. The polar star refers to Alaska, where the Battalion was activated. The blue of the personnel carrier represents Fort Benning, Georgia, the Infantry Center, where the Battalion was reorganized.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 15 January 1959. It was amended to correct the description on 7 February 2014.
